Gloo Private Programs Via Zoom
How They Work

For Gloo Online Programs we use Zoom because it is easy to use, runs in any web browser/device and is already widely used by many people. The week prior to your program date we will send you a Zoom link for your session together with the session handouts in one easy-to-print PDF document.

If you are inteding to book or take part in a Gloo Program via Zoom, please read the following important information prior to the session, so that on the day of your program you are prepared and able to participate fully and enjoy the best possible learning experience. If you’re not already using Zoom, you’ll find that it is quick to set up and intuitive to use.

1. Basic Requirements For Attending A Zoom Session

Zoom works on any phone, desktop, mobile or tablet device. So all you need is the following:

An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or above)

Speakers and a microphone – built-in or USB plug-in or wireless Bluetooth

A webcam - built-in or USB plug-in

You do not need a Zoom account in order to join a Zoom session.

2. Recommended Setup

1. Use a wired internet connection rather than WiFi if possible. Connecting your device directly to your modem or router using a wired ethernet cable minimises delays and dropouts which can sometimes affect wireless connections and will ensure you have the best possible connection.

2. Use a headset with a built-in microphone, if you have one, or if not please use headphones either wired or Bluetooth. This will give you the best sound quality and reduces the risk of any audio feedback between your microphone and speakers which can be distracting.

3. Close down all open applications on your device not needed for your session. This reduces the processing load on your device and again reduces any possible local lags or delays.

4. Although you can connect to your online session from any device, using a laptop or desktop computer is recommended. This will give you the best interactive learning experience.

3. Testing Your System/Setup

Prior to your online session, please use the following link to test that your internet connection, speakers and microphone are all working correctly. Clicking on the link below will open up a web page where you can start a Zoom test session so you can do this. The first time you use Zoom the web browser client required to connect to Zoom will need to download and set itself up. If you haven't used Zoom before you can also see how Zoom works and familiarise yourself with the platform prior to your session:

Pre-Course Zoom Test Session

Kindly note that if you choose to take part in a Gloo Online Program it is your responsibility to ensure that, prior to your session, you are aware of and able to meet the above requirements needed to attend and that you have tested your device and ability to connect to Zoom in order to fully participate in the session. Just prior to the official start of your program there will be a brief technical check to ensure that you have read and followed these instructions, have connected without any issues and know how to use Zoom.

We are unable to provide technical support or troubleshooting relating to your local device and system setup on the day, therefore please use the test link above to test your local system and setup prior to the day of your program. Most people experience no issues at all connecting to or using Zoom, though if you do it is usually because of issues with your device or its settings rather than Zoom itself. Following these simple steps will fix the most common issues:

Common Issues And How To Fix Them

4. Joining Your Online Session

Prior to your program date, you will be sent a Zoom meeting link to access your online session. On the day of your program, simply click on the link at the time indicated in the instructions in order to join your online session. You can also connect to your session using the meeting ID and password included in the details sent to you. To learn more about joining a Zoom session, watch the following short video:

5. Smart Phone/Tablet Users

If you choose to connect to your online session using a smart phone or tablet you will need to download the Zoom app prior. As above, for the best sound quality please use a headset rather than the in-built microphone on your device.

Android users - Download the Zoom app from the Play Store.

iPad/iPhone users - Download the Zoom app from the App Store.

6. Attending With Others

As mentioned above, to ensure you have the best sound quality and to reduce the risk of audio feedback between your microphone and speakers, it is recommended to use a headset or headphones and therefore an individual device. However, if attending with one or more other people from the same location, you may attend together using just one device if you find that there are no audio issues when testing your current system set up as described above.

7. Keeping Your Zoom Session Secure

To ensure the security of your Online Program, we use a unique password protected randomly generated meeting ID for each session, together with the waiting room feature to actively control and limit entry to the session. Once your program has begun the session will be locked, effectively preventing anybody else from entering the session.

The information required to access your Gloo Online Program will only be provided directly to you and is not publicly available. To minimise the risk of any uninvited people attempting to access your session, do not share or pass on the information provided to you to any other person (other than your child or children if you have booked a student program).
